It had been an institution for decades and I enjoyed eating there since the early 80's.

Now the owners have retired and sold. It is now a pizzeria with Sicilian dishes. You know those nights on vacation when you just want a simple plate of food? That is the night to go to the Stockpot. The food here will never receive stars. But it is simple, unfussy, homey, satisfying and soothing for those reasons. I have been going to the stockpot in Panton street for the last 50 years. There was one eastern Eurpoean Waitress who had been there as long as I had been visiting. I suspect that the reviews below have been mistakenly posted, the Stockpot in Old Compton Street is still open and the reviews were intended for there. As a nearby alternative I Business as usual, a good family food style at a very reasonable price for the Centre of London.

Try it when in London! We visited the Stockpot in September before going to a show, the food was pretty basic but filling, we had three courses of rather average food but very cheap for the location.
